The International Society for Markets and Development (ISMD) is a non-profit professional association dedicated to advancing research and exchange of ideas relating to how markets and other institutions connect to socio-economic development. Founded in the 1980s by some who were driven by the need for conscious efforts to improve the wellbeing of all peoples, ISMD has grown into a vibrant organization that invites bold and innovative ideas toward a full understanding of socio-economic development. Indeed, the world has changed since ISMD’s inception and the Society has been willing to change with the times. That development has economic, social, cultural, political and other dimensions suggests the need for ISMD to emphasize a multi-disciplinary approach to exploring the relationship between markets and development. We invite all who have similar interests to join with us.

One of the key activities of ISMD is to organize a biennial conference. Our last conference (ICMD-11) was in Hanoi, Vietnam and the next conference (ICMD-12) will be held in Casablanca, Morocco, from May 21-25, 2012. The theme for the conference is Development in the Era of Markets. Our goal for this conference is to facilitate thinking and investigations that rely on existing models to suggest new avenues for enhancing development around the world. We hope to see you in Casablanca.
